It’s just been 2 weeks since I joined SAP and the hottest topic up here -competitor Oracle. Reasons? In a batch of 18 new employees inducted 1/3rd from oracle. That include marketing executives with more than 7+ years of experience with oracle ERP’s. The heat of the competition is evident from this high count of poaching between SAP-Oracle.
Acquire and slaughter is something Oracle has been used to in the past with competitors like Siebel Systems Inc. But it is the latest battle with SAP that has generated the most colorful headlines. After the acquisition of PeopleSoft last year, Oracle officially became a player on SAP grounds. Could the PeopleSoft battle have simply been battling practice for this aggressive giant? This thought was fitting when No.1 contender SAP and No. 2 Oracle engaged in a heated head on bidding war over Retek, a small retail software provider in California. The bidding for Retek, after two weeks of offers and counteroffers eventually ended when Oracle opened its piggybank that was bit too rich for SAP blood. If the battle started between these two giants with PeopleSoft, then the Retek deal only intensified, making what is sure to be an interesting year of intense competition.
