As a frustrated associate when I left tcs, I wondered how people actually survive in situations so unprofessionally managed by some of the worst managers of the industry. But I wondered, is this just happening in tcs?or is it just my project? . So for curiosity sake I started new polls in all of these MNC’s orkut communities to get a first hand opinion of what each of these employees think about their employer. I posted a poll in each of the TCS, Wipro and Infy communities and here are the results as on 29/feb/07.
|Click for enlarged image|Polls are still active in their respective communities|
The poll result by itself is self explanatory. I have no intentions to weigh which of these three is the best or worst. But just to remind you what is actually happening in all three of these so called indian-IT-service-industries. I Hope whole of the freshers and new joiners talk to your seniors who are working there, scout through Community threads, some how do a detailed research about your posting and project before jumping into conclusions and taking up offers. The fact is ,there are few good projects with quality work. But there are hell lots of black holes, of course with onsite frills. So if your intensions are onsite oriented its worth the risk, others, may god bless you!

Me working at infy b’lore…
I do agree up on what ur saying…i too had my share of bad and good exp…
I don’t agree with this. Every company and every project has its ups and downs. If a person can’t take this, he can never be succesfully
Anoop..i hope ur not some manager..u sound like one
I liked this article, i am sure if you write a review on TCS many would be helped by it. You can read/write review at http://www.jobsamiksha.com
Hi this is important before joining a comp. after joining….hav to feel good….any ways good survey…
The entire Indian IT industry is mainly based on services, and therefore the employees dont get a chance to go into depth and learn the product on which he/she is working due to time constraints. I agree that some of the projects are so deadening that even a school student would doze off, but many other have challenging work. And also remember Infy, TCS and Wipro are not only the IT companies in India, we have many more
I am a recent entrant in the IT arena… i am not a fresher though, i have been working in banks for 6 yrs before i decided to join tcs.
“What would u do if u were not afraid?” (or something with a similar meaning…
from my experience i can tell u that its not just in IT cos whr ppl feel mismanaged,it is more universal than that…
so if u dont like what ur doing move on.. loads of things to do and love!
if u r afraid to move, take a clue from dr.spencer (hate quoting it, but…
cheers.
The IT industry has made a sophisticated clerk out of all of us! be it TCS , Infy or Wipro- things are the same.. And whoever said there are good onsite oppurtunities at TCS?? Duh!
hmm yeah what u said is pretty true in most cases ..they jes hire ppl n make then do some junk so called ‘work’ ..but as always there is a positive side to evrything .. those who want to make it BIG in life can do that anytime ..
I do agree that all associates at the MNCs do not land up in job profiles they like. But I wud blame it on Supply and Demand. With a growing number of ‘educated’ (no pun intended) youth vying for better oppurtunities, it would be hard for these companies to drop them in a pile of dung of their choicest flavour.
M a fresher, recently recruited by TCS n will join TCS in 2008. M reading all the views regarding this topic of “Mismanagement” and I must say M highly confused…
Everyone blamed certain things and took the side of some other. But no one told abt the ways of prevailing urself in those circumstances…Plz let me know what a fresher should do….?
Don’t do anything but do what you like and do the worst job the best you can. My experience with TCS has been throughout a revealing experience.. I joined TCS as a high performer…awarded the best associate in technical and soft skills during the training programme I had a high hope of getting something really good when I stepped in one of the many Chennai offices. things were not highly proffessional there… but things were not that bad as i had heard from my college seniors about TCS. Then my hope shattered when i was put into a manual software testing job and left to rot. I struggled a long time to put my mind in this which i did not like…which did not have a technical aspect…which did not give me any satisfaction. But i was starting to believe that Man Proposes and God disposes…slowly i changed slowly i started doing the job the best i could in the hope that someday seeing my potential someone will tell me you are far too good for this role and I will finally fly off. Then as I tried that I found a tester in myself which took me up and up and ended as Onshore Test Manager leading a team of 35 testers and My friends that is not an easy job to do and finally i did move on to become the youngest member in one of the most ambitious projects in TCS to become software designer…all this within a span of 2 and half years…. I just wrote about myself not to boast but jsut show you the ray of light that is still there. Be optimistic…these companies have changed the face of India in front of the world. We are certainly contributing to it.
@Ankan
hi i am a fresher about to join tcs this year.
Thanks for the light of hope.
I follow one thing in life, honesty+hard work=success, so i will stick to it.
I want to make a name in this industry and this is y i am here for.
God bless u all.
I joined infy 7 months back. So far i had only dissappoinment. But let’s see..
I dont know about foreign companies, but for this vicious trio of TCS, Infosys, Wipro, I can say this for sure….
THEY SUCK!
One has to accept that Happiness is just “comparative”. A guy who is not happy in TCS might not be happy as well in Infosys or Wipro. All the three companies are similar. Big. Politics. You are just a “resource” to them.
Hi all,
Even though I have put up this article, I have to make it clear that all these companies have their plus points too. The amount of job security and plain opportunity they provide to fresher are never to be forgotten. To be frank I miss my TCS days. I do agree it was horrible w.r.t to the work but the pressure free secure environments are the best place to settle up. And for sure I will be back in one of these 3 companies once my cribs are over and it’s time to settle.
Hi Prabha,
Good article……
But very sorry to say reading the blog it seems this is applicable only to so called “Indian IT biggies”.
I personally feel the survey would have given a worse result if you had included Global majors like IBM Accenture and Capgemini.
this is true for most of the IT majors and not only infi , wipro and TCS…..IT companies in india are just a big camp to search for cheap labour which otherwise wud not have been possible in the developed countries for this comparable compensation…..infact big names like these are just to give ur parents a relaxation that u are now self dependent , but take it as this , working for 10+ hrs sucks everything out of u and u r left ruined by the end of the day……is this life? no dear not atleast for the first few years when u have to make it to prove urself……but one thing is for sure, indian mncs atleast dont give u a chance to check ur orkut scraps and to do instant messaging….not a big deal but atlest companies like accenture and ibm dont let u feel the heat of the work as indian mncs…..like u can compensate for ur less work done on any other day…….TCS atleast gives u job securuty more than infy but infy pays u better if u r a gem to them…wipro is so so atlest for first fewyears after that u can reap ur gains……..
well great piece of info by prabha and other commenters and
i’ve a question to u all….(i’m in final yr. and got placed in wipro….and expecting to sit in recruitment drive of some other cos.)
if tcs wipro infy
or
IBM GS, IBM Accenture
or
small companies with more salary packages
Where i can learn more?
hi guys,
according to me whatever u r talking is crap…..instead of criticising the system..try to get the best of it….i know and u know that we are all average students who are joining these I.T majors….do something big and then criticise….
if you cant bear the system…leave it…..i think you are a major hazard to the cmpanies than the managers you are talking about….
@paroksh
Why raise voice when some one point to reality ehh..me at infy and it sucks and i am no shit…got it!
A must read..
